April dip with full year tractor sales strength – FTMTA agricultural machinery market report

The latest FTMTA Statistics Service Report for April 2026 shows the current level of vehicle registration activity in the farm machinery sector in Ireland. The numbers of imported used tractors and machines, registered for the first time in Ireland, increased compared with the same month of April 2025.

 

Tractors

The April 2026 new tractor market at 174 units was 40% lower compared with the same month in 2025. The year-to-date figure is 1,243 new tractors registered, which is a 21% increase over the same period in 2025. County Cork delivered the highest number of new tractor registrations at 26 new tractors for April, while Tipperary recorded 13 units, Kilkenny, and Wexford each recorded 11 units.

The most popular power band for April 2026 was the 161hp to 200hp category, which accounted for 26% of all new tractor registrations for the month. The over 200hp category accounted for 16% of all new tractors for the month of April 2026. The monthly average tractor horsepower figure for April 2026 was 158hp, and the largest tractor registered was rated at 355hp.

The FTMTA data shows that 190 imported used tractors were first-time registered in Ireland in April 2026, 133 units lower than in April 2025.

 

Telescopic Loaders

The Irish market for new telescopic loaders reported 19% reduction in April 2026 at 58 units compared with April 2025. The two leading brands for the year to date, JCB and Manitou accounted for 70% of the total market, while Weidemann has dropped to a 7% market share. There were 29 imported used telescopic loaders registered in April 2026, a significant reduction from the 52 units registered in April 2025.

 

Wheeled Loaders

The Irish wheeled loader market recorded a higher number of new registrations in April 2026 at 23 units compared with April 2025 at 38 units, which was a market decrease of 65%. The smaller Chinese manufactured machines at the lower price and power end of the market accounted for over 45% of the new wheeled loader registrations in Ireland. There were just 2 imported used wheeled loaders registered in April 2026 compared with 8 in April 2025.

 

Backhoe Loaders

The Irish backhoe loader market was flat in April 2026 compared with April 2025 with no new machines registered, which converts to a 50% decrease. There were 4 used backhoe loaders registered in Ireland in April 2026, the same number as registered in April 2025.

 

UTV Registrations

There were 24 new UTV’s registered in Ireland in April 2026, compared with 14 in April 2025. There were two used imported UTV registered for the first time in April 2026 compared with 1 in April 2025.
