This year, John Deere celebrates 70 years of tractor production in Europe. The company entered European manufacturing in 1956 when it took over a majority stake in Heinrich Lanz AG, the German tractor company, based in Mannheim.
Today, John Deere manufactures the 6M and 6R tractor series, ranging from 90 to 260 hp, in the Mannheim factory. The factory is the company’s largest tractor production site outside North America. Self-propelled harvesters are produced in Zweibrücken, while cabs, operator stations, and spare parts are manufactured in Bruchsal.
Across Europe, John Deere now employs around 17,000 people at 19 locations. With approximately 7,000 employees, Germany is the largest location for John Deere in Europe.
