The latest FTMTA Statistics Service Report for August 2025 shows the current level of vehicle registration activity in the farm machinery sector in Ireland. The numbers of imported new tractors, registered for the first time in Ireland, increased compared with the same month of August 2024, the year-to-date market showed a 10% increase.
Self-propelled silage harvester sales also increased significantly in 2025, while sales of new combine harvesters noticeably dipped as the tillage sector struggled with profitability.
Tractors
The August 2025 new tractor market at 130 units was 17% higher compared with the same month in 2024, while the year-to-date 2025 new tractor registration moving total figure is 10% higher at 1,808 units compared with 1,638 units for the first eight months of 2024.
In Ireland, County Cork continued to deliver the highest number of new tractor registrations at 262 units for the year-to-date, while Tipperary was ranked in second place with 170 units followed by Wexford, at 107 units.
The most popular power band for August 2025 was the 161hp to 200hp category, which accounted for 24% of all new tractor registrations for the month. This is the most popular power band in the year to date and accounted for 25% of all new tractor registrations in 2025. The over 200hp category slipped slightly to 12.67% of all new tractors for the year-to-date. The monthly average tractor horsepower figure for August 2025 was 150hp, and the largest tractor registered was rated at 385hp.
The FTMTA data shows that 179 imported used tractors were first-time registered in Ireland in August 2025, 24 less units than in August 2024, while the year-to-date used tractor registration figure at 1,955 units was 49 units more than was registered for the first eight months of 2024.
Telescopic Loaders
The Irish market for new telescopic loaders reported an 107% increase in August 2025 at 56 units, compared with August 2024. The latest FTMTA data showed new telescopic registrations for the year-to-date increased by 19% to 600 units compared with the same eight months of 2024 when 504 units were registered. The two leading brands Manitou and JCB accounted for 74% of the total market. There were 40 imported used telescopic loaders registered in August 2025 up from 39 in August 2024.
Wheeled Loaders
The Irish wheeled loader market recorded an increased number of new registrations in August 2025 at 13 units compared with August 2024 at 6 units, which was a market increase of 54%. There were 7 imported used wheeled loaders registered in August 2025 compared with four in August 2024.
Backhoe Loaders
The Irish backhoe loader market increased in August 2025 compared with August 2024 with 4 new machines registered. There were 2 used backhoe loaders registered in August 2025 in Ireland. For the period from January to August 2025 there were 40 new backhoe loaders registered in Ireland compared with 46 in the first eight months of 2024.
UTV Registrations
There were 22 new UTV’s registered in Ireland in August 2025, compared with 27 in August 2024. For the year to date there were 186 new UTV’s registered in Ireland compared with 241 for the first eight months of 2024, a 23% year-to-date decline. There were three used imported UTV registered for the first time in August 2025. For the first eight months of 2025 there were 23 used imports.
Irish Combine Harvesters Registrations
There were 32 new combine harvesters registered in Ireland in the first eight months of 2025, compared with 35 for the full year of 2024, a modest year-to-date decrease, with just 16 used imported combine harvesters registered for the first time up the end of August 2025.
Irish Self-Propelled Silage Harvesters (SPFH’s) Registrations (Updated)
There were 48 new self-propelled silage harvesters (SPFH’s) registered in Ireland in the first eight months of 2025, compared with 34 for the full year of 2024, a 38% year-to-date increase, with four used imported SPFH’s registered for the first time, up to the end of August 2025.
