Rolly Toys, the well-known German pedal tractor manufacturer, which are popular in Ireland, has announced that it will cease production at the end of the year. This follows a failed attempt at restructuring of the family-owned company Franz Schneider, founded in 1938 which has been working under a form of self-administration since February 2026.
The company has said that rising costs, declining exports, and the loss of a major customer led to the financial difficulties. Around 120 employees are affected by the factory closure.
Added to this were the sharply increased energy prices after the start of the war in Ukraine, as well as higher costs for materials and goods. Competition from China also put pressure on the company, while US tariffs burdened its export business.
However, the Rolly Toys brand looks likely to be retained. It is understood that there are two interested parties who would like to continue production at another location. The brand value is considerable: In addition to the core brand, the Rolly range includes licensed product lines from John Deere, Claas, MINI, CAT, Volvo, and other manufacturers.
