New Tractor Registrations stay on course with 12% market increase

The latest FTMTA Statistics Service Report for June 2026 shows the current level of vehicle registration activity in the farm machinery sector in Ireland. The numbers of imported new tractors and machines, registered for the first time in Ireland, increased compared with the same month of June 2025.

Tractors

The June 2026 new tractor registration numbers at 56 units were 8% higher compared with the same month in 2025. The year-to-date figure was 1,487 new tractors registered, which was a 12% increase over the same six month period in 2025. Counties Mayo and Tipperary delivered the highest number of new tractor registrations at 6 new tractors each for June, which is traditionally a low registration month ahead of the July registration plate change increase.

The most popular power band for June 2026 was the 121hp to 140hp category, which accounted for 27% of all new tractor registrations. The monthly average tractor horsepower figure for June 2026 was 136hp, and the largest tractor registered was rated at 260hp.

The FTMTA data shows that 248 imported used tractors were first-time registered in Ireland in June 2026, just 12 units lower than in June 2025. There were 1,466 used tractors registered for the year to the end of June 2026.

Telescopic Loaders

The Irish market for new telescopic loaders reported a 46% increase in June 2026 at 22 units compared with June 2025. The two leading brands for the year to date, JCB and Manitou accounted for 70% of the total year to date market, with Weidemann marginally ahead of Kramer in third place. There were 33 imported used telescopic loaders registered in June 2026, a significant reduction from the 48 units registered in June 2025.

Wheeled Loaders

The Irish wheeled loader market recorded an 83% higher number of new registrations in June 2026 at 6 units compared with June 2025. The Chinese manufactured machines at the lower price end of the market accounted for 50% of the new wheeled loader registrations. There were 5 imported used wheeled loaders registered in June 2026 compared with 3 in June 2025.

Backhoe Loaders

The Irish backhoe loader market remained unchanged in June 2026 compared with June 2025 with two new machines registered. There was one used backhoe loader registered in Ireland in June 2026, compared with 11 registered in June 2025.

UTV Registrations

There were 24 new UTV’s registered in Ireland in June 2026, compared with 16 in June 2025. There were eight used imported UTV registered in June 2026 compared with 4 in June 2025.

Self-Propelled Silage Harvesters (SPFH’s) Registrations

There were 43 new self-propelled silage harvesters (SPFH’s) registered in Ireland in the first six months of 2026, compared with 49 for the full year of 2025. Seven used imported SPFH’s were registered for the first time, up to the end of May 2026.

Claas was the market leader, followed by John Deere and Krone. Seven of the 43 new SPFH machines were powered by engines delivering more than 900hp. County Cork accounted for the highest number of new SPFH registrations with 9 units, followed by Tipperary with 7 units. New SPFH’s were registered in 17 of the 26 counties of the Republic of Ireland during 2026.
