BYD have started the year strongly with the introduction of their Seal 6 Super Hybrid, a plug-in hybrid with intelligent BYD Super DM technology. It arrives in Ireland both as a Saloon version and, in a new body style for BYD in Europe, an ultra-practical estate version of the car, named the BYD Seal 6 Super Hybrid Touring.
Every bit a BYD, it is available in Ireland in Boost and Comfort trim variants and comes equipped with their impressive standard specifications, and competitive pricing, starting at €37,490 for the Saloon body style and €38,999 for the Touring model.
After BYD launched the Seal U Super Hybrid SUV in 2024, sales of which prove the popularity of their hybrid technology, the new Seal 6 Super Hybrid is the second BYD to come to Ireland equipped with their DM-i dual mode technology and is the first of six new models to arrive here this year.
BYD Super DM Technology
Featuring a ‘DM-i’ drivetrain, with the “i” standing for intelligence, the Seal 6 Super Hybrid provides an efficient, practical, and eco-conscious solution for daily mobility needs and long worry-free journeys.
Fast, powerful, and efficient, it works by prioritising electric power with minimal reliance on fuel, achieved by the Super DM (Dual Mode) Technology, developed exclusively by BYD. When the battery is fully charged and switched to EV mode, the vehicle becomes pure-electric and when state of charge is low, it transforms into an ultra-low fuel consumption hybrid vehicle producing a quiet and comfortable drive.
Offering motorists EV economy and driving experience linked to the reassurance and flexibility of its compact petrol engine, the combination of battery and motorised power translates into over 100kms of pure-electric driving, and a combined range that extends to 1,505kms, on the saloon ‘Boost’ variant, with a full charge and full tank of fuel.
A further reassuring source of comfort for buyers is the confirmation by BYD that warranty cover on its cobalt-free, lithium-ion phosphate Blade Battery is now extended to 250,000kms, or 8-years.
Spacious, aerodynamic, and amply-proportioned, it has comfortable space for five adults helped by measurements of 4,840mm long, 1,875mm wide, 1.495mm/1,505mm high (Saloon/Touring) with a 2,790mm wheelbase – putting it firmly in the category of family-sized models.
Visually attractive and eye-catching, its ocean-inspired front-end design mixes flowing shapes with sharp lines for a sporty, dynamic look, whilst incorporating an active air-intake system that boosts aero efficiency. Along the sides, sculpted dual waistlines accent its sleek profile and agile silhouette, aided by 18-inch ‘flying axe’ alloy wheels. At the rear, tail-lights feature high-grade smoked finishes and layered LED-matrix sequences, designed to create a flowing visual motion.
Inside, quality upholstery, linings and finishings are styled to complement its four-exterior body colours. Driver and front passenger seats are electrically adjustable. Infotainment and touchscreen features are prominent, within easy reach, and preloaded with driver assistance, comfort, communications, and entertainment features.
Multi-speaker sound, 4G connectivity, USB sockets, and ‘Hi BYD’ intelligent voice commands all feature. Interior storage in the form of door pockets, shelf spaces, cubby holes, armrest and glovebox space is generous.
Awarded a full five-star Euro NCAP rating, safety fitments include numerous advanced driver assistance systems such as front parking sensors, rear radar, 360-degree camera, sensors and reversing camera.
The Saloon model boot space is 491 litres increasing to 1,370 litres with rear seatbacks folded. In the Touring model, load capacity with all seats occupied is dramatically greater at 675-litres, extendable to 1,535 litres. Other features include a load area power point, pop-up hanger points, and an access flap for long-handled implements.
The Boost models have a 10.08kWh battery capacity with an electric range of 55km, figures that increase to 19kWh in Comfort models with an electric range of 105km. DC swift charging capability from 30% to 80% is just 23 minutes. Hybrid fuel consumption is quoted at 4.4 – 4.8 litres/100km for Saloon models and 4.8 – 5.0 litres/100km for the Touring models.
Weighing 1,665kg (Saloon) and 1,710kg (Touring), both versions are capable of 0-100km/h in 8.5 seconds. All models have electric motor peak torque of 300Nm and are equipped with electronic continuously variable FWD transmission.
